Detrital Wash is located along the south shore of Lake Mead in the Mojave Desert in Arizona. It is actually on the Arizona and Nevada border. Detrital Wash extends about fifty miles from Lake Mead into the mountains north of Kingman.

Detrital Wash

The temperatures can go as high as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. For most of the year it is a dry piece of the desert. During the summer months, however, superheated air rises from the ground. It can form clouds that can send a lot of rain down very hard and very fast. It can cause flash floods.

The Detrital Wash basin is home to an endangered species of a plant called bear-paw poppies.
